House from leftover windows is an allotment house in the outskirts of Copenhagen. The starting point for this project was 48 windows that were mistakenly ordered for a larger building project and were purchased at a low cost by the client. The windows set the design parameter itself and are directly mounted in a visible structure made of Douglas fir. Situated in an allotment garden area, the material palette reflects a typical allotment garden style with black panel cladding, felt roofing and white window frames. The house stands out from its surroundings by the pitched roof folding up to form dormers of the stacked windows. The owners have a large collection of antiques and together with the construction of the windows it turns the house into their own little wunderkammer. The transverse plywood panels in the ceiling serve partly as a structural element by holding the rafters together like a sort of beam, and partly as light screens where daylight flows in along the panels during the day, while they are illuminated by light bulbs in the evening.
