House from Shear Walls is an experimental project that seeks to investigate the constructive and aesthetic potentials of CLT-elements (cross-laminated timber). At the Danish Art Workshops we have investigated the constructive and aesthetic potentials of CLT-elements. The majority of the build CLT-constructions are direct translations of other building systems such as concrete, and large holes are made in the CLT-elements with a lot of waste as a result. We have tried to develop the architecture itself from the potentials and limitations of CLT-constructions, creating spaces and openings by juxtapositioning the constructive plates, and embracing the assembling methods. The project is developed in a 1:10 model of a conceptual narrow house with a lot of bay windows, and 1:1 detail models emphasizing the logic of constructing with CLT.
