The summerhouse at Orø consists of two volumes. One volume that can be heated and used by the couple alone with the main functions and a double bed. The other volume holds extra bedrooms. Between the volumes is a large covered terrace that works like an extended kitchen and living room. There are no corridors in the house and all rooms are connected by the outdoor encircling walkway and the terrace, which gives an experience closer to nature. The encircling walkway is inspired by traditional Japanese architecture, and it steps down towards the garden offering places to sit and together with the low hanging roof it frames the green surroundings. In the house there is a clear distinction between the fixed windows and the operable openings, both in surface treatment and position in the wall, and the placement and sizes are determined completely by the inner functions giving the facade a playful expression. Facades and fixed windows are treated with wood tar and the sliding windows and doors are oiled pine.
