Transformation of a traditional Danish four-winged farm. The main house of the courtyard is largely preserved and extended with an addition in wood and glass, housing the new kitchen with a view over the fields. The extension fills the open corner between the main house and the barn, following the logic of the other buildings but distinguishing itself as a completely open wooden structure. The new roof spans over the existing part and the extension, creating a unified entity. The roof incorporates large dormers that provide light and views to the upper floor. The dormers draw inspiration from loading hatches and doors on traditional farms but in contemporary materials and detailing that relates to the extension. The roof construction is made of exposed trusses in Douglas fir, with prefabricated roof cassettes spanning between them. The construction is traditional in its timber framing but forward-looking in its use of prefabricated elements and assembly method.
